The Day One
Document

I wrote this document a couple years ago in an effort to properly welcome new IBOs to the AmeriPlan ® family. There are alot of IBOs in this company that market the business opportunity to be something it isnt. I want my downline to learn how to make this business work for them, not the other way around.

Section 5 of 12

Inspiration, Vision, and Rejection
You will encounter these three concepts when dealing with your IBOs and IBO prospects on a regular basis. The more familiar you become with how they work, the easier it will become to overcome the obstacles in front of you and your IBOs.
Inspiration is what causes us to get motivated and do things. Inspiration is a new creative idea, or a realization that time is ticking by. It can come in many forms, but they all serve the same purpose; a driving force to change and better our lives.
Vision is your perspective on the way things are done. Most people work 40 hours a week to make their living and they believe that there is no other way to live besides getting a different job to make a slightly higher paycheck. People with this mindset also believe that the only way to break this cycle is through pure dumb luck, or some special ability that they do not possess. They think that going to college and getting a degree will serve to better their lives because they will again get a higher paying job that can only be attained with that degree. Nothing could be further from the truth. You could sell everything you own, buy a small house in a 3rd world country and retire on your overwhelming wealth in that part of the world. Obviously I don’t recommend this; it’s just to illustrate a point. The way you have always done things will only lead to the way you have always done things. You must change your vision on things if you are to break away from that way of life.
Rejection is a huge subject that could easily fill several pages alone. The reason that it is included in this section is because of its relationship to vision and inspiration. Rejection is something that we all face in every aspect of life, from dating to job searching. If you never asked another person out on a date after you were rejected previously, then you have resigned yourself to a life of loneliness and the human race would become extinct rather quickly. You persevere through the rejection because you have a vision of the reward when you do succeed, and inspiration motivates you to achieve it.
The first thing you need to change about yourself and the IBOs you bring into this business is their vision. It needs to match ours so that we can all strive for the same thing. If your prospects work full time, you need to show them that there is a different way, the AmeriPlan ® way. Once they have the same vision, they need to be inspired to do something about it. You and your IBOs will face an overwhelming amount of rejection in the beginning. Rejection is not failure, quitting is. Rejection is the means by which we learn how to succeed. You get a couple no’s and get discouraged, so you begin to question your vision because no one else seems to see it. Most people won’t because 90% of the world has to go to work everyday for the people with vision. Take each no as a lesson not a failure and try a different approach. Thomas Edison tried hundreds of different materials to make a working light bulb before he found one that worked. When later asked why he didn’t give up after he failed so many times, Edison responded by saying that he hadn’t ever failed, he just found hundreds of materials that didn’t work in a light bulb. Where would we be if he just gave up? As I have stated in previous sections, as long as you don’t give up, YOU CANNOT FAIL.
I would like to speak about some of the different types of people and what they lack, but more importantly how to overcome it. The first type of person is the most common that you will encounter; the “show me the money” people. Almost 90% of all the rejections you will face come from these people. They suffer from a lack of vision. They will have lots of different excuses but in general you will feel a major lack of belief in their voice. What they are actually saying is “show me the money”. Until you have money to show them, they will not take you seriously, and the only way to overcome this is to come back when you do have the money. Again if we were only interested in the sale, I would give you lots of tips on how to win them, but I am confident that you have the ability to succeed with this, so I will tell you to write their names down and come back when you do have the money.
The other common type is the “I’ll do it later” type. These account for about 9% of the total population and they will most likely be your IBOs, or even yourself. This type of person can see the vision, because they would really like to sit on the couch all day! They suffer from a lack of inspiration. There are many levels to this laziness varying from “no I just couldn’t find the time today”, all the way to dropping off the face of the earth for several weeks at a time. Remember I said that 4 of 5 brokers will fail in the first six months? Here they are. In order to overcome this you need to find some means of inspiration, and it is different for every person. You may just need to wait for them to inspire themselves. In either case, if you don’t maintain their vision until they find inspiration, they will quit.
The last type of IBO prospect is the “warrior champion” type. This type only account for 1% of the people you will talk to. The warrior champion will join and almost from the start be completely proficient. They will consume as much knowledge as you can throw at them and then using the methods they have chosen, go into the world and enlist lots of people in a short amount of time.
The “I’ll do it later” type and the “show me the money” type can both become warrior champions if you can overcome their lack of inspiration and vision.
I also need to further talk about the rejection aspect of things. In the start of your new business, not only are you going to get rejected by family and friends, you will also probably be rejected by someone you look up to. I have a 19 year old IBO prospect who told me the day after we talked that she went home that night and told her father what she was going to do and he said it was the third dumbest thing she had ever done. The third? I don’t know what one and two were but I get the impression that he doesn’t approve. To a 19 year old girl, this can be devastating. Understand that the people you look up to also seek to shelter you. Her father immediately jumped to the conclusion that AmeriPlan ® was a scam and attempted to shield his daughter from almost certain disappointment by voicing his disapproval for her decision. The way to overcome this is with knowledge and information. If she knew our company inside and out, and could prove our legitimacy with facts and figures, her father might be a little more supportive. Be aware young brokers (ages 18-30), your family will jump to the same conclusion, do yourself a favor and learn the material before you tell them about it. Even then, they may not believe you or believe you will fail, because they cannot see you succeeding any way other that theirs. No matter how painful these rejections may be to you, DON’T LOSE YOUR VISION. If you do, you will resign yourself to live exactly the same way they do. I recommend just asking for their support, and then present the business to them so they can see what you have learned and how serious you are. Later in your career when you have achieved even a small level of success, they will come around. You may even get a much deserved apology from them because they didn’t trust your decision making abilities.
